OUR MISSION:

We believe…

  • Periods are not dirty, gross or something to be ashamed of.

  • You should be able to learn about your body and menstrual cycle before your first period.

  • Everyone should learn about periods (even people who don’t have them).

  • We should all be aware of what our “normal” is and feel empowered to go to a medical professional if things are different.

  • We should be given comprehensive information of all our contraceptive options.

  • We should be treated with respect and listened to if we go to a medical professional with a problem.

  • Everyone deserves access to menstrual products when they need them.

“My favourite thing about The Hormone Diaries is the community that has blossomed online of people sharing stories, asking questions and offering guidance and support. Sometimes the best thing you can hear is ‘you are not alone’ or ‘that’s normal’.”

Hannah Witton, founder of The Hormone Diaries, sex educator, online content creator.

THE JOURNEY SO FAR…

THE HORMONE DIARIES WEB SERIES

It all began in 2016 when after 7 years not having any periods because of my contraceptive pill I decided to take the leap, stop taking it and see what happened to my body. I thought I would start a lil series on YouTube called “The Hormone Diaries”, to document any changes. I documented changes to my body, my mood, the return of my period, along with learning how to use menstrual cups and educating myself about contraception.

THE HORMONE DIARIES BOOK

Then came the idea for the book! The video series was very much about documenting my personal hormone diary but I wanted a place to put all the knowledge I’d gathered and share other people’s stories too. The Hormone Diaries book was released in June 2019; it covers everything from periods to pregnancy, from PMS to menstrual cups, and from contraception to endometriosis. It includes letters, such as “dear my coil” and “dear my PMS” submitted by people who watched and enjoyed the series, speaking to their own hormone diaries.

THE HORMONE DIARIES COMMUNITY

After the book came out, I didn’t want it to end there. So I created a Facebook group where people could connect with one another, ask questions and share stories about all things hormone diaries related. It is such a great community, I love seeing everyone’s posts in there and how people help each other out with different issues. It feels very supportive and welcoming.

THIS WEBSITE!

And finally, one year since publication of The Hormone Diaries book I launched this website to act as a hub for all things The Hormone Diaries! It’s definitely a work in progress but when things calm down a bit I’d love to have blog posts on here, interviews with experts, quizzes and a shop! But for now, here is a place where you can submit your own stories - whether they’re funny, painful or relatable (or all of the above!) and you’re willing to share, we want to hear from you. Or you can just nosy at other people’s stories and hopefully find some relief, comfort, and appropriate lols or anger.
